What Happens When Black Flow Artists Finally Breathe?
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been the only Black woman in the room at a flow arts retreat. The only one dancing with a bigger body. The only one whose joy felt too much for the space. And still—we show up. We keep hooping. We keep spinning. We keep softening into the magic that movement brings. But what happens when we’re not the only one? When I created the Black Hoopers AfroNation experience, it wasn’t just about travel or fun. It was about reclaiming our space to be seen, safe, and celebrated. It was about letting Black flow artists—breathe. When We Breathe, We: Drop the armor and actually feel joy Discover new ways to express our power Deepen community and co-regulation through rhythm Step out of invisibility and into embodiment We’re not just dancing for fun. We’re dancing for our lives. For our younger selves. For the ancestors who never got to move freely. For each other. Whether you’re just discovering flow or have been hooping for years—your joy deserves a place to stretch out and stay awhile. 🌀 Want to support or join the movement?
